Overview

Serum Bank in The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo (namely, IMSUT serum bank) aims to supply the serum donated from healthy volunteers to the researchers who need. The bank collects the blood from healthy volunteer who agreed to donate at blood test of regular medical examination for IMSUT staff. The donated blood is isolated into serum and cryopreserved.
Before establishing the research serum bank, recruitment of blood donation volunteers and blood collection have been performed for each research project. This bank project is implemented as a part of IMSUT activity to support the intramural house research, which is approved by the intramural ethical review board (IRB).
 
Research applicants are restricted to principle investigator (PI), assigned researcher in IMSUT, or PI who collaborates with the researcher in IMSUT.
 
In case of PI collaborates with the researcher in IMSUT, following three requirements are met;
(1) A joint research agreement has been concluded with the IMSUT and the serum shall be used within the scope of research plan.
(2) The research plan shall be approved by the IRB of IMSUT and also be approved by the IRB of the joint research institution.
(3) A written oath (Appendix) concerning the handling of the provided serum samples shall be submitted.
 
The provided sample is 1 mL of serum per tube. Accompanying information are gender and age.
The cost of research serum:
 (1) For PI or assigned researcher in IMSUT: 1,500 yen/tube
 (2) PI who collaborates with the researcher in IMSUT. (regardless for-profit or non-profit): 2,800 yen
