Overview

This facility is International Joint Usage and Research Center capable of experiments in non-human primates using pathogens up to BSL-3. We have maintained a colony of squirrel monkeys and owl monkeys, and can provide them for experimental purposes. It is also possible to carry cynomolgus monkeys and rhesus monkeys into our animal room from external organizations and conduct experiments. We welcome all domestic and foreign researchers to use our laboratories. For more information, please see user guide below, and contact the director of the facility.

This facility is located in Setouchi-cho at the southern tip of the Amami-oshima island, and the south side of our site faces the sea. There remains the marvelous natural environment with ecosystems and biodiversity in the Amami-oshima island, and also unique folk culture that is different from both Okinawa Prefecture and the mainland of Japan. We open the door to researchers in a variety of academic fields, not limited to medicine, and may support various types of research by utilizing the good location of our facility.
