Participation report for the 16th International Symposium of the Institute Network for Biomedical Sciences

The 16th Symposium was held on November 11-12, 2021, hosted by the Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics, Kumamoto University (IMEG). It was held in hybrid format (partially onsite, partially online), due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus. Two faculty members and one graduate student from IMSUT participated and presented their research results.

The theme of this year's symposium was "The Front Lines of Biomedical Research on the Nervous System."

Mr. Tomohiro Yabushita, a graduate student in the doctoral course at IMSUT, received the first prize award in the "Best Short-talk" category, for his talk titled "Genome-wide CRISPR activation screen identifies multiple clinically actionable resistance mechanisms with DNA-hypomethylating agents in myeloid malignancies."

Next year, the symposium will be hosted by the Cancer Research Institute of Kanazawa University (CRI).
