Visitors from China Youth Delegation (Sakura Science Plan)

October 7-13, 2018

From October 7th to 13th, IMSUT welcomed a delegation of 12 young and promising Chinese researchers who were 9participatns from Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and 3particiants from Beijing Institute of Life Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Their trip to Japan was funded through the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST)’s “Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Science Plan)”, which aims to increase opportunities for young Asian researchers to travel to and learn about Japan, and foster good international relationships in the science field.


First, on the day following their arrival, they visited The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and realistically felt the latest and technologies such as robot, global environment and space.

On October 9th, they visited dean’s office to meet with Dean Yoshinori Murakami, Vice dean Yasushi Kawaguchi, Prof. Jun-ichiro Inoue and Project Prof. Mitsue Hayashi, and present themselves each other.

Since then, they went to BioBank Japan, and received a brief introduction to the facility and its operation system from Project Prof. Takayuki Morisaki, and there, they visited the Serum Bank and the Tissue Bank.

From the afternoon, they participated in “IMSUT-CAS Workshop on Infectious Diseases 2018” at IMSUT, and 3 scientists of them made a presentation about their own research field.  Workshop were held successfully with more than 80 participants.

In the morning of October 10th, they visited Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, then be introduced research field, Cryo-electron microscopy and they exchange views with Prof. Masahide Kikkawa, and inspected the facility, including Cryo-electron microscope.

From the afternoon, they visited the Medical Science Museum and take a brief look at the museum. after then, they visited the supercomputer room, which was explained about the system and its project by Senior Assistant Prof. Rui Yamaguchi.

Then, Associate Prof. Masaki Imai and Assistant Prof. Kiyoko Iwatsuki of Prof. Kawaoka’s Lab guide and explained the P3 facilities for them, and they visited MucoRice Cultivation facilities, and received explanation about the facilities by Dr. Koji Kashima.

On November 11th, they visited National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) and received introduction of outline-organization, and inspected the AIDS research center. from the afternoon, they participated in the seminar which was held at department of Pathology, and all of them introduced their own research outline, including self-introduction there.

On October 12th, they visited Orix Corporation, and received a lecture and exchange

their opinion about Orix corporation ‘s activities in China and future prospects.

At the end of all program, they visited Dr. Aikichi Iwamoto of AMED, and receive a

lecture about the relationship and history between China and himself.

IMSUT will continue to promote international exchange and looks forward to a further expansion of friendly and cooperative ties between Japan and Malaysia
