The delegation of Cell and Gene Therapy Japan Programme composed of
representatives of University College of London (UCL) and startups in the UK visited IMSUT

On February 21, 2018, a representative of UCL Innovation & Enterprise and directors of 14 start-ups in the field of cell and gene therapy visited IMSUT accompanied by British Embassy officials and staffs from a scientific tour organizing agency.

UCL was founded in 1826 and has about 40,000 students. Recently UCL has consistently ranked 10th or higher internationally. The visit was a part of our country’s Cell and Gene Therapy Japan Programme. A representative of UCL Innovation & Enterprise came together with representatives of 14 start-up companies in the field of gene therapy to see the most advanced research in cell and gene therapy. The visit was arranged by the Translational Research Initiative, The University of Tokyo (TRI).

The delegation first listened to the presentation of a start-up company connected to the University of Tokyo in the field of cell therapy. Then Prof. Yoshinori Murakami, Dean of IMSUT introduced IMSUT. After the general presentation, Prof. Keiya Ozawa, Director of IMSUT Hospital spoke about gene therapy at IMSUT and Dr. Tokiko Nagamura spoke about cell therapy.

It is hoped that IMSUT will strengthen ties with UCL and start-ups in the UK.
