Visitors from the University of Lyon
On January 31, 2017, IMSUT welcomed a delegation from the University of
Lyon.
The University of Lyon is a consortium of higher education and research
institutions in Lyon and Saint-Etienne, founded in 2007, and a total of
130,000 students study at the University. It concluded an international
academic exchange agreement with UTokyo in 2015. Five delegates from the
University visited IMSUT to promote the international alliance research
internship program (IARI program) between the Graduate School of Frontier
Sciences, the Institute of Molecular Bioscience and the Institute of Medical
Science of UTokyo, and the University Claude Bernard, the Ecole Normale
Superieure de Lyon and the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon
which are members of the University of Lyon.
On that day, they talked with Professor Mutsuhiro Takekawa, Professor
Yasushi Kawaguchi, Professor Hirotoshi Tanaka (Vice Deans of IMSUT), Professor
Koichi Matsuda (Graduate School of Frontier Sciences), Dr. Mari Matsuoka
(International Liaison Office, Assistant Professor of GSFS), and received
a brief explanation about IMSUT. After that, they made a short tour of
IMSUT's labs and facilities. First, they visited IMSUT hospital, which
was explained by Professor Arinobu Tojo. Second, they went to the supercomputer
room and received a brief introduction to the facility and its project
from Associate Prof. Rui Yamaguchi. And then, they visited BioBank Japan,
and received a brief introduction to the facility and its mission from
Prof. Koichi Matsuda. There, they visited the DNA storage, serum and plasma
storage and tissue storage facilities.
We hope this visit will encourage a further expansion of cooperative ties
between UTokyo and the University of Lyon through this student internship
program.
