" The 22nd East Asia Joint Symposium "

The 22nd East Asia Joint Symposium was held in Okinawa from November 11th to 14th, hosted by the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST).

This symposium was launched about 20 years ago, and aims to foster good relationships between top Asian life science researchers. Participating institutes host it in rotation. From this year, the Soonchunhyang University has joined, and so 8 institutions in total were participated:

The Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo (IMSUT)

(Japan)

The Institute for Virus Research (IVR), the Kyoto University

(Japan)

Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST)

(Japan)

Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Seoul National University (IMBG)

(Korea)

Samsung Biomedical Research Institute, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine (SBRI)

(Korea)

Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Taiwan University, College of Medicine (IBMB)

(Taiwan)

Shanghai Institute for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBCB)

(China)

The Soonchunhyang Institute of Medi-bio Science, The Soonchunhyang University (SIMS)

(Korea)

A total of 13 researchers took part from IMSUT. The senior researchers gave oral presentations of 25 minutes including Q&A, while the young researchers supplemented their posters with 10-minute short talks.
As the presentations and short talks were all  5 minutes longer, and one more institution participated compared to last time, the program was quite intense. Nonetheless, the participants discussed issues enthusiastically during the sessions with unflagging energy, demonstrating their engagement.

On the other hand, dinner, the campus tour, and the visit to Shuri Castle were very relaxed in the restful atmosphere special to Okinawa. There, they deepened their friendships.

We will continue to promote international exchange and look forward to the further expansion of friendly and cooperative ties among Asian countries.

Next year, the symposium will be hosted by Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Taiwan University, College of Medicine (IBMB).
