The 24th East Asia Joint Symposium was held at Otsu, Japan from October 16th to 18th, hosted by Institute for Frontier Life and Medical Sciences, Kyoto University (INFRONT).

This symposium was launched about 20 years ago, and aims to exchange information and foster good relationships between top East Asian life science researchers. Participating institutes host it in rotation. 8 institutions in total participated:

Department of Lif Science, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU)
Institute for Frontier Life and Medical Sciences, Kyoto University (INFRONT)
Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Taiwan University (NTU)
The Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo (IMSUT)
Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Seoul National University (SNU)
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST)
Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBCB, CAS)

A total of 7 researchers took part from IMSUT. The senior researchers gave oral presentations of 15 minutes, while the young researchers supplemented their posters with 5-minute short talks.

The presentations and short talks were short but the time of the poster review sessions was longer, so the young researchers could discuss issues with participants as much as they wanted.

Next year, the symposium will be hosted by Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBCB, CAS).
