|演題：||Integrating Genetics into Mainstream Medical Practice|
Establishing clinical genomics within routine medical practice has been challenging over the last several decades. A major barrier has been access to genetic testing due to the high cost and inconsistent availability of appropriate tests across clinical specialties. This problem was further compounded by insufficient understanding of genotype–phenotype correlations and genomic variation among populations worldwide, the availability of only non-scalable and expensive technologies, and critically, underappreciation of the clinical utility of genomic information. With the tremendous growth in medical knowledge and the revolution in sequencing technology that has brought faster and far less expensive sequencing within our reach, we have now reached a point at which we are successfully breaking through these barriers to make clinical genomics more accessible and substantively impactful. In this talk, I will describe recent trends that are firmly establishing clinical genomics as a fundamental field of medicine that will benefit all clinical specialties and countless individual lives with the potential to influence healthcare worldwide.
