(Protein-protein interactions in the stress MAP kinase cascade of fission yeast) |
概要: | Eukaryotic cells utilize a ubiquitous signaling module, MAP kinase (MAPK) cascade, for sensing and integrating various stress signals to induce protective responses. The long-term objective of our research is to understand at a molecular level how cells perceive and respond to diverse stress by elucidating the structure and function of the stress signaling pathway. Our studies are being carried out with the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, an organism that has consistently served as an outstanding model system for studying basic cellular functions conserved among eukaryotes. The Spc1 MAPK pathway in S. pombe is remarkably homologous to the mammalian SAPK (stress-activated protein kinase) pathways, which determine cancer cells’ responses to chemotherapy/ radiotherapy as well as inflammatory responses in diseases such as asthma, arthritis and bacterial infection. The seminar will discuss protein-protein interactions among the components of the Spc1 pathway and their significance in stress signaling.
