Subject: Nanozymes and its applications in medicine
Abstract: Nanozyme is a new nanomaterial that possess intrinsic enzyme-like activity, which is another way to create new catalyst. Nanozyme can catalyze enzyme substrates at a mild condition and be used as natural enzyme for medical applications such as detection of infectious diseases, tumor diagnosis and catalytic therapy. Since the first evidence was published a decade ago, the new concept of nanozyme has been widely accepted, with more than 500 kinds of nanomaterials possessing intrinsic enzyme-like activity discovered up to now. These studies have changed the view that inorganic nanomaterials are chemically inert in the biological system. This has directly led to a new concept that nanomaterials could be bioactive, opening a new direction in research, which exploits nanomaterial’s own biological properties rather than combining nanomaterial with other biomaterials, and paving the way for a wide range of applications using nanozyme as enzyme mimics for improving human health and living environment. Here, I would like to introduce the progress of nanozyme and its latest applications in medicine.
