IMSUT Joint Research Project FY2012 Call for Proposals
IMSUT (Institute of Medical Sciences, the University of Tokyo) Call for Proposals "FY2012 IMSUT Joint Research Project" in the following three joint research areas.
(1) Joint Research Area: Development of Cutting Edge Medical Therapies
<Research topic>
Bioinformatics based on genome-related data
Clinical research applying genomic data
Analysis of hematopoietic mechanisms and hematopoietic tumorigenesis, and development of novel treatments for hematopoietic malignancies
Analysis of genes involved in solid cancers and development of novel treatments
Development and manufacture of gene therapy vectors
Treatment of infectious diseases, and coordinated analysis and treatment of their pathogenicity, and treatment-related technological development
Fundamental research on molecular targeted therapy of immune diseases focusing on autoimmune disorders
Elucidation of stem cell regulatory mechanisms using human stem cells (ES cells, iPS cells, hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells etc.) and investigation of related pathoetiology.
Development of hematopoietic stem cell treatments with a view toward next-generation regenerative medicine
Development of solid organ regeneration with a view toward next-generation regenerative medicine
(2) Joint Research Area: Disease Systems Biology
<Research topic>
Mechanisms of stem cell and central nervous system differentiation
Analysis of genes involved in bone metabolism
Mechanisms of angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis
Regulation of germ cell generation, and models for this process
Analysis of allergy and immune related genes
Chromosome segregation abnormalities and cancer
Tyrosine kinase-mediated signaling in cancer and other intractable diseases
Transcriptional regulation and cancer development, Generation and maintenance of cancer stem cells
Membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase and cancer
Cancer and abnormalities in cell adhesion molecules
Screening and application of small molecules that regulate protein interactions
Antibody engineering for Systems Biology and Medicine
(3) Joint Research Area: Infectious Diseases and Immunology
<Research topic>
Molecular, cellular and whole organism-level analysis of host factor/pathogen factor interactions involving influenza virus, Ebola virus, paramyxovirus, HIV, HTLV, herpes virus, HCV, HBV etc. or other emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases
Host responses as these relate to the acquired immune system, pathogen sensors, etc. of the innate immune system as well as mucosal immunity of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts
Technological development for reverse genetics, miRNA analysis or mucosal vaccines, etc.
Research that requires use of the Amami Laboratory of Injurious Animals or Primate Laboratory
1. Program outline
The purpose of this program is to provide the opportunity for researchers outside IMSUT to conduct cooperative research activities with IMSUT scientists in the 3 research areas described above.
Successful applicants and project members may use IMSUT facilities by permission of the host scientist involved.
2. Eligibility of applicants
The applicant must be a researcher at a university or public research institute.
3. Duration of Joint Research
Support period: 1 year, lasting from 1 April 2012 until 31 March 2013.
Support period can be extended up to 3 years, however, application for extension is required for each fiscal year.
Regardless of the support period, the applicant is required to fill in the entire period of the Joint Research on the application form. Duration should be from 1 year up to 3 years.
4. Application Procedure
The applicant is required to submit Application Form "1" and "3" to IMSUT.
Before submitting the application, the applicant must contact closely with the prospective IMSUT host scientist.
